FAQ about the new Chase connector

We have released a new beta syncing method with Chase to our members. This update has significantly improved the rate of successful syncs, and we’re even seeing that 2 Factor Authentication is triggered less. However, as this is a beta version, there are some bugs that we are aware of and working on resolving.

Here is a list of known issues that we are working on resolving:

  • Some members might get a request to reset their password - some only have to reset their password once to get a successful sync. However, others may see a request to reset their password again.

We know the password reset process can be frustrating, but this is being initiated by Chase, and this is the only solution we’ve seen that is able to result in a successful sync. We are working diligently to make this better.

  1. What do you mean by a new Chase connector?

The new Chase connector uses a completely different approach than any other connector. This connector logs in directly from your device instead of logging in through our servers.

  2. Why do I have to enter my credentials again?

If you previously logged in to Chase using our existing connector, your credentials were stored in an encrypted format in our servers (see How Does MaxRewards Secure My Credentials). For security reasons, your credentials are never sent back to your device.

Because the new Chase connector logs in directly from your device, it cannot access your secure credentials. This is why you have to re-enter your credentials.

  3. How often do I need to enter my credentials?

Because your credentials are saved securely on your device, you will need to re-enter your credentials again if you delete and re-install the app. Credentials saved on one device will not be accessible on another device, even if the you're logged in to the same MaxRewards account.

  4. How often do I need to do two-factor authentication (2FA)?

We've found that 2FA prompts happen significantly less frequently on the new Chase connector than older connectors.

  5. Why am I being asked to reset my password?

In some circumstances, we notice that Chase logins take a significant amount of time to process and eventually fails. In this situation, we've found that members who reset their password on the Chase website through MaxRewards enables them to successfully and repeatedly login thereafter.

  6. Is anything recorded when I reset my password?

No. When you reset your password, you are doing it on Chase.com, and we do not see any activity during the password reset flow.

  7. Why is my password not saved when I reset my password?
Because we do not see any information from your interaction with chase.com while you are resetting your password. When you re-enter your credentials on our Chase connector, we can securely save it for convenient syncs in the future.
